This week is Little Flower’s 4th birthday, and we
are rainbow crazy here!
Of course, all the decorations and presents for her Rainbow
Birthday Party have been kept hidden from her, but I couldn’t resist sneaking a
photo to show you my latest crafty make – rainbow pom poms!
I want to hang pom poms along the kitchen wall by the table,
and I found many easy pom pom tutorials online. I bought tissue paper in all
the rainbow colours, with the intention of making a few pom poms in each shade.
But as I started laying out the tissue into little stacks, I
had a brainstorm to try a rainbow pom pom. So I layered one of each shade, in
rainbow order, and folded the six sheets in a concertina.
I tied some thread around the centre of the concertina (I’ll
buy some invisible thread tomorrow to hang them), then rounded the edges with
scissors.
Then all you do is fan out each half, and very carefully
coax the layers apart, fluffing and arranging as you go. The odd tear won’t be
seen once everything’s pouffed up!
I was so pleased with the results that I’m using all the
tissue for rainbow pom poms. After Little Flower went to bed, Bunny and I spent
the evening stacking and folding and watching “Bigfoot Files” on telly (we are
big fans of Bigfoot in our house, and it balances out my Downton Abbey viewing quite
nicely, thank you very much).
Now we have a bag full of neatly folded pom poms, ready for
Thursday’s family celebration (her actual birthday) and Saturday’s party...and I'm sure many will wind up as permanent decorations in her bedroom!

p.s. The combination
of the birthday and the approaching holiday season has prompted my decision to
pause the Stitching Sundays for a while – I need to take each day as it comes
creatively...thank you everyone for participating and sharing, I do plan to
resume once life settles a bit. Of course I’ll still blog at the weekend about
my crafty endeavours, stitching or otherwise!
