Simple gifts still life

This week I have received generous and beautiful harvest gifts from friends:

The last of the dahlias from Jooles garden, tied with a velvet ribbon and given to me this morning when we met to do some quilting (more on that soon!).

A generous batch of quinces from a crafty friend's tree - their heady scent has filled the kitchen, simply scrumptious! We plan to meet up to make quince jelly and to try a recipe I found for quince and pumpkin chutney (more on that soon, too!).

The last of the apples shared with me by a music teacher friend - the rest made their way into apple-cinnamon cupcakes with honey frosting (The Love Bakery Cookbook, a gem!). These last little fellas are destined to become apple-blackberry jelly with the frosty blackberries in the photo, picked from the hedgerow on our road and frozen to try to keep little hands from gobbling them all up!

What has autumn given you this week?

  1. Of all the autumn fruits I plunder and get given from people quince has yet to be on my list and I would not know what it tastes like - there's a confession. This week I have turned a bag of very soft pears into pear wine Mmmmm! Jo x

  5. Such lovely autumn gifts, what lovely generous friends. This week, the autumn weather has allowed me to get plenty of washing dried outside! I have also eaten quite a few satsumas and apples.

  7. What delicious gifts Chrissie, they certainly speak of Autumn. Here we are supposed to be in Spring and for the most part it might well be Autumn; however, there's hope of lovely sunny days and summer 'fruits' on the horizon. Last night we had a delectable vegetable risotto, an anytime comfort food, but soooooo good! Our male jam-making friend brings us quince marmalade in the season, and often out of his store room too, and it's a beautiful treat! Enjoy the harvest!

  9. Beautiful blackberries in the hedges of the field behind our house. I made a lemon curd and blackberry cheesecake, a Waitrose card recipe and it was scrummy!

  12. Some lovely autumn gifts. They discussed a delicious sounding quince jellie on radio 4 this week, so you can go and have a look it is made with start anise. I cant say that I have ever tried it, so would love to know how you get on. Tried to leave message to your lovely previous post, but having nightmare with my computer at the moment, so can't see any blogging happening this week, grrrr! The yarn bomb car was super impressive and ironically I also bought some big delight wool a few weeks back with the view to make a snood, so even though mine is a different colour, we can still go snap! It looked like you had a wonderful day out. Xoxo
