Although I don’t make a specific list of New Year’s
resolutions, I start a new year by taking stock of where I am with things and
make adjustments as needed...and some adjustments are certainly needed with my
embroidery.
I decided to re-launch Stitching Sundays so that at least
one day a week, and preferably more, I will give time over to my needle and
thread. I absolutely love embroidery, but so often I find myself reaching
for the crochet hook, because at the end of a long day it’s easier for me to
crochet than it is to concentrate on small satin stitches...but honestly, I
think I’m just being lazy. I only find crochet easier because I’ve been doing it so
much longer than embroidery.
I just need to keep my stitching supplies to hand, preferably
sitting atop my crochet hooks, and I know I will make good progress with embroidery techniques. The concentration helps me to forget about all else going on, which
is ultimately very, very relaxing.
If it's written on a mug, it must be true |
I have a WIP list a mile long, and I want to clear away some
of these projects before I take on anything new (and of course I have a
mile-long list of new things I want to stitch, too!).
Luckily, &Stitches
is hosting a Finish-Along for the month of January!
I’m now a contributor to this wonderful site devoted to all
things stitchy, and a little part of me is wondering if they introduced this
FAL topic just for me...and Sam-I-Am...
I know they are fond of my Dr. Seuss embroidery, but the
poor fellow has sat waiting for so long, I’m sure they really would love to
say, “Get on with it, woman!” but are being polite...
I needed a break from this because I wasn't happy with the black outline of that letter 'H' - it's just sloppy, and I got ticked off that it wasn't working out as I planned. I knew I'd have to rip out part of it, so I put it away for a while.
I’m joining in this FAL so that I devote more time to
Sam, finish up his green ham and eggs, and then I can move on, because I have
some ideas swirling in my head that I’m excited to share with you! Do you have
an embroidery project needing some TLC? Link it up to &Stitches and finish it
with me!
Please also join me as and when on Stitching Sundays – you might
be curious to take up some fun and simple embroidery (click on the relevant
words in my ‘Looking for Something?’ section on the right for inspiration), you
might have a detailed project languishing in a drawer, you might want to add a
personal touch to a quilt or item of clothing – share it here! I have some interesting topics to share in the coming weeks.
Link up below, and don’t forget to grab the button on the
sidebar...
Happy crafting!

Great post Chrissie - thank you for the opportunity to link up once again - it's past my bedtime so I'll be back tomorrow - night night, sleep tight! Love, Joy xo
ReplyDeleteAnd now its morning and I can think! I'm so looking forward to seeing Sam finished, Chrissie, poor fellow has been in limbo for way too long . . . but then, look at all the other beautiful projects you've completed since his inception . . . . amazing!
DeleteI'm very happy you've started Stitching Sundays again - I find it - and YOU - so inspiring and encouraging, thank you, and I must take another look at '&Stitches' and check out what everyone's up to there! Love, Joy xo
Hi Chrissie, I won't be joining in with your weekly sew along as I have a few toooooo many WIP's crochet wise, but I will be following to see how you get along with yours. Dr Seuss has to be my favourite children's author and I'm looking forward to sharing him with my Grandson, so I was extremely wowed by your Green Eggs and Ham embroidery, can't wait to see it finished.

ReplyDeleteTHAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAny teacher would love to have that. I've always loved Dr. Seuss, I'm a huge fan... so this made my heart do an extra pitter and patter!!
I Hope you have a wonderful week,
Much love,
Tammy
Chrissie how I would love to join you but try as I may I can never seem to get started with my embroidery, I love it and wish I could give some proper time to doing it but then something else always takes over - I need to get over this and get going on something very simple - I shall be watching how you get on, love your embroidery Chrissie. Have a wonderful evening
ReplyDeleteLots of love

This is really beautiful, Chrissie! I love the bright, happy colors. I might try to join in soon because I've got lots of stitching to try out. :)
ReplyDeleteNow a bit of embroidery may just be an option again! Hope to join in every now and again.
ReplyDeleteWow Chrissie, your embroidery is great and your stitches perfect. As you know I love embroidery, although I've been distracted by patchwork the last few weeks, although I have plans to combine the two in my latest project. Sarah xo
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your stitching Sundays return Chrissie. I look forward to seeing what you are working on! xx
ReplyDeleteI think Sam and the letter H are all looking fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Chrissie,
Meredith
I knew it wouldn't be long before you got back into the 'swing of things', and got your crafting mojo on again!! I'll be stopping by to have a peek to see all your wonderful creations.
ReplyDeleteI really want to make that basket liner from the dress - do you remember? So I'll be stitching along, but it'll be on the sewing machine - I know it's cheating a bit, but I've never made one before! So fingers crossed I don't muck it up. X
Thank you for continuing the stitching on Sundays, I've got some ideas and this is the push to make them come to life. I think I may have worked out how to grab a button too.
ReplyDeleteS xx
Your embroidery is beautiful, I'd like to try some simple embroidery so will look out for your Sundays, thank you :) xx
ReplyDeleteConcentrating on finishing outstanding projects sounds like a great thing to do as we enter the New Year.
ReplyDeleteLove the Sam embroidery. Happy to see that Stitching Sundays are back and I hope to join in now and again this time round...

Oh I wish I had the patience for embroidery, but I've never enjoyed cross-stitching or anything. But I will surely admire the things you finish!!
ReplyDeleteSam is adorable! He will be happy when you finish him up! I've never tried embroidery but adore the way is looks. The design ideas can be endless. I hope you are able to keep up with Stitching Sundays. Anything that eliminates stress is a beautiful thing!
ReplyDeleteHello honey. I am still to get around to replying to emails, on the next to do list. It is lovely to see you back and to see you all had a lovely time in the US getting back in perfect timing to avoid all the major weather. I also love the bits you bought back for a complete bargain!! It is good to see you back doing your stitching sunday and at some point I intend to pick up my hoop again and do a little stitching but for now it is waiting patiently. Needless to say I will join in as and when. Sending you much love xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh I love that Dr Seuss bit of embroidery! It will look amazing when finished. I'm going to say what others won't say: Get on with it, woman!! hehe
ReplyDeleteI'm on a major wip-busting mission so I'll join in with the &Stitches Finish along - is it going to be a monthly thing or just for January? I also need to try to remember to link up to Stitching Sundays.
ReplyDeleteThe Finish-Along with &Stitches is for January - but please feel free to join up there and then link up here for Stitching Sundays - I guarantee I won't have Sam absolutely complete by the end of the month, so it would be nice to have some bloggy friends doing more finishing with me here! ;-) Cx
DeleteIt's looking great -you must be a perfectionist because I can't see owt wrong with the stitching on the 'h' !
ReplyDeleteI love your Sam I Am! I understand getting frustrated. I have a complicated design I created & set it aside because I had gifts to complete for the holidays & because I hate embroidering words & they are so many words in my design. Argh! Well, it is a map! LOL
ReplyDeleteBest of luck. & keep stitching!
